Who is Rankin and what is he famous for?
Rankin is the stage name of John Rankin, he was born in Glasgow in 1966 and is an English fashion and portrait photographer, mainly famous for his high key photography, he takes photos of famous celebrities too.
In a shot, he focuses mainly on facial photographs with extremely bright white lights (High key lighting), and on some pictures will have a black and white filter over them while still having the high key lighting in them, some of them still have colour in them after applying a black and white filter.
Poses in his pictures consist of items being on or around the face, looking straight into the camera and looking over the shoulder.
In Rankins images, I like that the light and camera that Rankin uses brings out the colours in the models eyes, and that it makes the models skin colour shine.

My favourite Rankin image
I like this image because of the colours on the all white image. The colours themselves are contrasting too, the dark blue and the bright neon pink allow a nice vibrant image. The colours aren't kept separate either, they are nicely merged all over the place, with the bright pink being held out in the open air to make them look like eyelashes.
My own pictures
How i created these images.
Step 1
First you add levels onto the image, and move the middle slider over to the left until you're happy with the result. What this does is increase the brightness of the bright colours, like the whites and the skin tone.
Step 2
Next, add a black and white filter over the image to get the proper hight key feeling that John Rankin creates in his own photos. If you feel like you need to make the skin a little bit brighter, you will have to increase the reds in the photo my sliding the red slider over to the right until yore happy with the result.
